Scripps Research, a research program funded by the mainly by the NIH, conducts thousands of studies on health and disease with a goal to tailor healthcare to patients. Their All of Us (AoU) app aims to conduct studies digitally and provide a source of news and events for users in the program. This study is being funded by the NIH.
Background
The AoU My Medical Minutes app struggles to engage and educate users effectively, as it lacks interactive features and incentives to encourage regular use and improve retention. Thes feature is to create an engaging newsfeed experience where users can track article length, earn badges, and unlock rewards as they complete readings.
Problem
User Reading Articles: A user reads an article in the AoU My Medical Minutes app, earns a badge, and is motivated to read more.
User Tracking Progress: A user views their badges and progress, motivating them to complete more articles for higher rewards.
User Receiving Notifications: A user receives a notification about a new article in the AoU program and clicks it to stay informed and engaged with research updates.

Reflection: Working on the AoU My Medical Minutes project allowed me to enhance my skills in gamification by adding reward systems into the user experience. By designing a newsfeed page where users earn badges for reading articles, I learned how to effectively engage and educate users through interactive elements. This experience highlights the importance of combining educational content with incentives to drive user participation and retention.
